She was colorless when she came back. All washed out by that light, that light she said was too bright and too harsh.

But she was red in the glow of a fire, staring at the dying embers in a fireplace, at the glow of a fag end. She wanted to walk right into those red flames.

She was red with me, red with heat and blood and sex-warmed skin.

She wasn’t really back until she was invisible, no color at all.

Hmm.

Blood and fire. Seems like everything red is all about living and dying.

Even her best friend.
